FFF Racing launches digital team to contest SRO E-Sport GT Series
FFF Racing has revealed a new digital team, FFF Esports, that will contest this year’s SRO E-Sport GT Series.
The Chinese squad has earned titles in the Blancpain GT Series Asia (2018) and the Blancpain GT Series (2019), and will now look to replicate that success in the virtual world. The SRO E-Sport GT Series will run five rounds and a grande finale using Assetto Corsa Competizione, with classes for real-world drivers (Pro), leading sim racers (Silver) and public qualifiers (Am).
The team already has close ties to sim racing. Last year, FFF Racing and long-time partner Lamborghini Squadra Corse gave Kamil Franczak the chance to test its #563 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO at Adria. This was a reward for winning the orginal SRO E-Sport GT Series format in 2019.
For the new programme, selected pro sim drivers will be fully supported by FFF Racing, creating a bridge between the virtual and real racing worlds. Drivers will compete in the real livery of the new #63 FFF machine thanks to Assetto Corsa Competizione. FFF will hope that its knowledge of real-world racing will carry over to the new platform online.
Andrea Caldarelli, FFF Racing Team Principal: “I’m happy to announce this new project for our team. While everyone is currently looking to the Esports communities as a consequence of the track acti-vities halt, we started this project more than one year ago, supporting SRO Esports and all the massive efforts made by Kunos and AK Informatica. Alongside our racing programs, Esports represents a new challenge for us and I’m sure we will start to look at FFF Esports as an important branch of the team. Even though we long to be back on track, it is very exciting for us to start this new virtual chapter of our company and we aim to be successful. This is our first step into the online racing platforms and we are planning already a very attractive campaign that will be announced later, as well for our drivers”.
